Library Theatre to present Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations for Christmas 2008

The Library Theatre in Manchester will be presenting an adaptation by Neil Bartlett of Charles Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations as its seasonal for show for 2008. The production, which runs between Saturday 29 November 2008 - Saturday 17 January 2009, will be directed by the Library’s Associate Director, Roger Haines.

Roger Haines co-directed last year’s sell-out Library Theatre show, Tom’s Midnight Garden, the latest in a long line of seasonal productions which reinforced the theatre’s reputation for the quality of its Christmas shows which appeal to young people and adults alike.

Great Expectations, regarded by many Dickens scholars as the greatest of all his works, tells the story of a young boy, Pip, and his encounters with two very different people, both of which will shape his life forever. First, he meets Magwitch, an escaped convict, and then the eccentric Miss Havisham, whose beautiful but spiteful adopted daughter, Estella, becomes the object of Pip’s affection.

Tickets, which start from £8.50, are on sale at the Library Theatre box office on 0161 236 7110, or online at www.librarytheatre.com.
