Andover College students celebrate record achievements!
Andover College students who took A Level exams this summer are celebrating record pass rates above the National Average – a transformation from a period two years ago when the College – then known as Cricklade College – was facing closure.
The pass rates show an enormous improvement on last year’s results with ‘A’ to ‘E’ pass rates increasing from 92% to 99% with ‘A’to ‘C’ grades showing a jump of 13% from 56% to 69%. This year’s national average for A Level passes stands at 97%.
20 out of the 22 subjects areas achieved a perfect 100% pass rate with three areas achieving 100% passes at the higher ‘A’ to ‘C’ grades: Accounting, Health and Social Care (double) and Law.
For students studying AS Levels, the results are just as impressive. ‘A’ to ‘E’ pass rates increasing by 14% from 76% to 90% and ‘A’-to ‘C’ grades showing a 25% leap from 32% to 57%.
For Andover College, a campus of Sparsholt College Hampshire, this is a significant achievement. Andover College – formerly Cricklade College, a college facing closure two years ago – merged with Sparsholt College Hampshire in August 2007. Since this period considerable investments have been made into the development of a dedicated Sixth Form Academy, high quality resources and facilities and raised standards in learning and teaching. This year’s results stand testimony to the effectiveness of these investments and the commitment of the staff.
Sheila Read, Assistant Principal at Andover College with responsibility for the Sixth Form Academy commented: “These are a set of excellent results in which both students and staff have put in a huge amount of work, time and energy. Andover should be very proud of the opportunity for excellent teaching and learning within the town.”
Martin Simmons, Vice Principal for Andover College is very pleased with the results: “It’s an absolutely fantastic achievement. I’m so happy for the students and I’m absolutely delighted for the staff who have worked so hard this year to bring about this result.”
