New College Nottingham’s (ncn) School of Construction has been recognised for its expertise in plastering training, receiving two awards at the prestigious national ‘Plaisterers’ Training Awards 2008’ held at Plaisterers’ Hall, London on 29th October.

The College received ‘The Regency Vase’ award for best plastering achievement throughout England, Scotland and Wales and the ‘Midlands and East Anglia Regional Certificate’ for overall achievement.

The Plaisterers’ Training Awards 2008 recognise and celebrate the highest standards of achievement in training and education within the UK plastering industry. The Lord Mayor of London, Alderman David Lewis, presented ncn with their trophies along with a cheque for £750, at the special Awards Luncheon, which was attended by the Skills Minister, David Lammy MP.

ncn is the largest provider of construction training in the East Midlands and is the leading college for successful candidates at NVQ Level 2 and 3 in plastering. The specialist workshops at ncn Basford Hall include facilities for all areas of the construction industry. Each area is fully equipped with the materials and machinery students need to practice their skills in a professional, hands-on environment.

Director of Construction at ncn, Kevin Gowdy, comments: “Gaining recognition through this prestigious award illustrates how far ncn has come. The team’s support for our students has been superb. This is also demonstrated in the continued growth in recruitment for plastering and related qualifications at the College. I am extremely proud to have such a strong team.”
